Basic 2-Oil Soap: Coconut and Olive
10-12 bars
1000 gram (2 lb.) mold
Ingredients:
- 12 oz. coconut oil
- 20 oz. olive oil
- 4.5 oz. lye
- 12 oz. water
Step 1: Lye Solution
- Measure water into glass container.
- Measure lye in separate glass container.
- Take water & lye outside with wooden spoon.
- Pour lye slowly into water and mix well.
- Let cool.
Step 2: Fats Mixture
- Measure and put fats into metal stock pot.
- Melt down the solid fats on low. Remove from heat.
Step 3: Cool
- Let the water and oils cool between 85 and 110 until they are approximately the same temperature
Step 4: Prepare Mold
- Prepare your mold.
Step 5: Blend
- Pour lye solution into the pot of oils.
- Blend with stick blender until mixture reaches medium trace (a thick pancake batter consistency).
Step 6: Fragrance & Color
- Stir in colorants & fragrance with wooden spoon. (Some ideas: 2 Tbsp ground oatmeal; 2 tsp dried herbs; 1 oz essential oil)
Step 7: Pour
- Pour the soap batter into the mold.
- Let set undisturbed for 48 to 72 hours.
Step 8: Unmold
- Unmold after the soap has set for 2-3 days
- Cut into bars.
*The soap will be slightly sticky, that’s OK. It will harden as it cures.
STEP 9: Cure
- Place your soap bars on a drying rack and let cure for at least 30 days.
